Also, the number of non-certified consultants and consultants who only plan weddings part time make it difficult to estimate average earnings. According to Payscale.com, in 2025, wedding planners earned average salaries of $40,602. Earnings ranged from less than $30,035 to $111,862 or more.

Though consultants typically make between 10 to 15 percent of a wedding's expense, consultants generally charge a flat rate. A consultant may also be hired to oversee all the pre-wedding administrative details for an agreed-upon fee.

In a large city, an experienced consultant can realistically expect to have a wedding planned for every weekend. Consulting fees are lower because destination weddings are usually much smaller than traditional weddings.

Since wedding and party consultants typically run their own businesses, they generally do not have paid sick days or holidays. In addition, they are typically responsible for providing their own insurance and retirement plans.
