Antiques and Art Dealers

Earnings

It is difficult to gauge what antiques and art dealers earn because of the vastness of the industry. Some internationally known, high-end antique stores and art galleries dealing with many pieces of priceless furniture or works of art may make millions of dollars in yearly profits. This, however, is the exception. It is impossible to compare the high-end dealer with the lower end market. The majority of antiques and art dealers are comparatively small in size and type of inventory. Some dealers work only part time or rent showcase space from established shops. They may earn $15,000 per year or less.

In June 2024, Salary.com reported that antique dealers working in the United States earned an average salary of $50,148. The bottom 10% earned $39,708 or less, while the top 10% earned $60,840 or more. Glassdoor.com reported that art dealers earned a median salary of $89,000 in June 2024; base pay ranged from $59,000 or less to $102,000 or more per year. Note that annual earnings vary greatly for antiques and art dealers due to factors such as size and specialization of the store, location, the market, and current trends and tastes of the public.
