Auctioneers

Earnings

In July 2024, Payscale.com reported the median salary for auctioneers was $60,000; average salaries ranged from $41,000 to $100,000. In June 2024, GlassDoor.com reported that auctioneers earned average salaries of $65,528. On a daily basis, pay ranges between $100 and $2,000.

Auctioneers usually are paid on commission, earning a percentage of the sales, and/or via a fee that is paid by the seller of the asset or property in question. Part-time auctioneers sometimes supplement their income by assisting more experienced workers, acting as cashiers, assisting with publicity, or helping to organize the items. The National Auction Association says that "some auctioneers utilize a buyer's premium, a surcharge on top of the sale prices paid by the buyer. This buyer's premium often offsets expenses like credit card fees or online bidding expenses."

Auctioneers who work for a company usually receive benefits such as vacation days, sick leave, health and life insurance, and a savings and pension program. Self-employed auctioneers must provide their own benefits.
