Biochemical engineers will continue to be in demand in the coming years. More people are living longer and there will be an increased need for biochemically engineered products and processes to help tackle the various health problems of this aging population and other issues that affect the world.
Employment for bioengineers and biomedical engineers is projected to increase by 5 percent from 2022 to 2032, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). This is faster than the average for all occupations. "Bioengineers and biomedical engineers continue to collaborate with scientists, other medical researchers, and manufacturers to address a range of injuries and physical disabilities," according to the DOL. "Their work in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and other fields is expanding the possibilities for biomedical engineering products and services."
Job opportunities for chemical engineers are projected to grow faster than the average (8 percent) from 2022 to 2032. The DOL says that "demand for these workers will continue with chemical engineering’s migration into nanotechnology, alternative energies, biotechnology, and other fields."
Biochemical engineers who keep up with technology and continue their education will have favorable job prospects. Employment opportunities will also arise from biochemical engineers retiring or leaving the field for other reasons.
