According to PayScale.com, the median annual salary for an IP attorney in 2025 was $199,306, with salaries ranging from $62,500 to $289,000 or higher. Patent attorneys usually accept patent cases on an hourly basis, at rates that can range from $100 to $500 per hour. The U.S. Department of Labor reported that the median income for all lawyers was $145,760 in May 2023; the lowest paid 10 percent earned $69,760 and the highest paid 10 percent averaged more than $239,200 per year.
