Certification, Licensing, and Special Requirements

Certification or Licensing

Life coaches pursue voluntary certification to enhance their skills and knowledge, as well as to demonstrate to prospective clients and employers that they have achieved a high level of recognition in their field. The International Association of Coaching (IAC) offers a certification process that leads to one of three certification credentials:

  • IAC-Masteries Practitioner designation Purpose: Candidates must have a cognitive understanding of The Coaching Masteries Process and pass an online test with a minimum score of 70 percent.
  • IAC-Certified Coach: Candidates must submit one, 30- to 45-minute recorded coaching sessions for IAC review.
  • IAC-Master Coach Process: Candidates must submit two, 30- to 45-minute recorded coaching sessions for IAC review.
