Participate in engineering- and other STEM–related exploration programs that are offered by colleges and universities to obtain hands-on experience and learn about various career paths. For example, Syracuse University offers a one-week STEM in Sports program for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, as well as recent high school graduates. Contact schools in your area to learn about available programs.
Other ways to learn more about sports engineering careers include participating in information interviews and job-shadowing experiences with engineers. You should also join your school’s engineering or STEM club and participate in athletics to obtain hands-on experience.
