A small percentage of sports engineers are represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers; International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers/Communications Workers of America; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; and other unions.
The International Sports Engineering Association offers membership for students and current professionals, publishes Sports Engineering journal, and provides information on careers on its Web site. Sports engineers often join professional associations in their specialty area such as the American Society of Civil Engineers, Biomedical Engineering Society, IEEE Computer Society, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and SME (manufacturing). Useful engineering associations include the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. ABET accredits engineering education programs.
