Civil litigation lawyers spend most of their time in their offices meeting with clients, doing research, taking depositions, negotiating settlements with other attorneys, and performing other legal tasks, and appearing in court representing clients. They also spend a lot of time in law libraries, in government record rooms, and in the homes or businesses of clients. Attorneys travel frequently to court, to conduct research, and to meet with clients and other attorneys.
Some civil litigation lawyers work more than 40 hours a week. They meet with clients at night and on the weekends, and they may take work home as a trial date or other legal deadline nears.
