Criminal lawyers who are employed by government agencies can become members of the American Federation of Government Employees. Many criminal lawyers join the American Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Association of Women Lawyers, National District Attorneys Association, and the National Legal Aid and Defender Association. Other important organizations for lawyers include the Association of American Law Schools, Law School Admission Council, and the National Association for Law Placement. Legal associations are also available at the local and state levels.
