Environmental Planners

Earnings

Salaries specific to environmental planners are not included in the reports by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The BLS does show, however, that in May 2023 urban and regional planners had median annual incomes of $81,800, with the lowest paid 10 percent earning less than $51,470 and the top paid 10 percent earning $126,120 or more. Those working for state agencies averaged about $80,160. Architectural, engineering, and related services firms paid their planners $85,900 per year. The states and territories where urban and regional planners earned the highest incomes were the District of Columbia, California, Nevada, Washington, and Connecticut.

Benefits for environmental planners depend on the employer; however, they usually include such items as health insurance, retirement or 401(k) plans, and paid vacation days.
