Human Resources Managers

Work Environment

Human resources managers work in comfortable, modern offices. They spend a significant amount of time communicating with HR staff and organization employees on the phone, via e-mail, and in person. About 33 percent of HR managers work more than 40 hours a week. Labor relations managers often work long hours when negotiating contract agreements. HR managers who are employed by organizations that have offices nationwide or in other countries sometimes travel to these offices, as well as to attend professional meetings and arbitration hearings or to recruit employees. HR managers sometimes find the job stressful when they must take disciplinary actions against, or even fire, an employee, or when they participate in contentious labor negotiations.
