Photography is a field that anyone with a camera can explore. Purchase an inexpensive camera (or borrow or rent one) and begin experimenting with photography. Many smartphones have quality cameras that you can use to take pictures, although a stand-alone camera is ideal.
To learn more about this career, you can join the yearbook or newspaper staff, photography contests, and community hobby groups. Start a blog that features your photographs and commentary about the photographic process. Participate in information interviews and job-shadowing experiences with photographers to learn more about their careers.
Participate in photography competitions for teens that are offered by the National YoungArts Foundation, SkillsUSA, Skills Compétences Canada, and other organizations to test your skills against others and have some fun.
