Remote Work Coordinators

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Aspiring remote work coordinators should obtain at least one year of experience in a remote position, as well as obtain experience in a lower-level supervisory and/or managerial position in an office setting.

Remote work coordinators must have expert knowledge of remote work, online communication, and project management tools. At large companies, they may be assisted by tech support departments when tech issues arise. At smaller employers, they may serve as “jacks of all trades” when it comes to helping their employees set up and use remote and employee collaboration technology, as well as troubleshoot problems.

Coordinators must have top-notch communication and interpersonal skills because they regularly communicate with employees via online communication platforms, telephone calls, e-mails, text messages, and, occasionally, via in-person meetings. They need strong leadership skills to establish and enforce remote work protocols and rules, as well as support and encourage staff during challenging times. Other important traits include excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills; patience; empathy; flexibility; and good time-management and organizational abilities.
