Renewable Energy Site Assessors

The ideal candidate has prior experience in the renewable energy or construction industries or through an internship or co-op experience while in school.

Renewable energy site assessors need a combination of technical and soft skills to be successful on the job. In regard to technical abilities, site assessors need to be able to use a variety of software and tools that help them evaluate a site and prepare site assessment reports. For example, a solar site assessor must have experience with shade measurement tools (such as Solmetric SunEye or SolarPathfinder), proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to use digital cameras and drones. They also need basic knowledge of electrical and thermal systems and roofing practices and be knowledgeable about meteorological terminology.

Site assessors must be able to provide top-notch customer service and have the ability to explain complex technical concepts, the pros and cons of installation, and the costs of various systems to customers. Other important traits include a detail-oriented and energetic personality; strong organizational and time-management skills; a high level of business ethics; the ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and do their jobs independently with minimal instruction/direction; and a willingness to continue to learn throughout their careers. Some site assessors may be required to lift and carry a ladder and other equipment, which may weight up to 50 pounds.
