Renewable Energy Site Assessors

History

For as long as renewable energy (wind, solar, geothermal, hydropower, and biomass) has been used, there has been a need to evaluate the site where the technology will be constructed. This is important to ensure that the wind farm, residential solar system, or other clean energy system or structure is built in the right location, that a sufficient amount of energy (solar, water, wind, etc.) can be collected, and that other criteria are met. Demand for renewable energy has increased during the past two decades due to rising costs for fossil fuels, growing concerns about damage caused to the environment by the burning of fossil fuels, decreasing manufacturing costs and expanding capacity for renewable energy, and falling prices for energy storage devices (especially lithium-ion batteries). Renewable energy comprised 21 percent of total U.S. power generation in 2022, according to the Energy Information Administration, up from about 8 percent 2008.
