Cosmetics Shop Owners and Managers

Earnings

Earnings for cosmetics store owners vary widely and are greatly influenced by the ability of the individual owner and existing economic conditions. Some cosmetics store owners may earn less than $15,000 a year (but they probably don't stay in business long unless they have another job that generates income), while the most successful owners earn $100,000 or more.

Salaries for cosmetics store managers depend on the size of the store, the responsibilities of the job, types of products and services that are sold, and the number of customers served. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, median annual earnings of supervisors of retail sales workers were $52,030 in May 2023. The lowest 10 percent of all supervisors earned $30,350 and the top 10 percent earned $76,350 or more. Managers who oversee an entire region for a retail chain can earn more than $100,000 annually.

In addition to a salary, some stores offer their managers special bonuses, or commissions, which are typically connected to the store's performance. Many stores also offer employee discounts on store merchandise and services.
