Fleet Maintenance Technicians

Employment Prospects

Employers

Fleet maintenance technicians are employed by trucking and bus companies, delivery companies such as UPS and FedEx, car rental agencies, farmers and agricultural businesses, construction firms, government agencies, and any other business or organization that has a fleet of vehicles or equipment that requires maintenance and repair.

Starting Out

A technician who trained via an apprenticeship or in the military will be placed in a job once they complete their training. Those who train at a technical school or community college have to find their own jobs, although they may obtain employment leads from their instructors, through their school’s career services office, or from contacts made during internships. The Association of Diesel Specialists (https://jobs.diesel.org) and NAFA Fleet Management Association (https://nafa.careerwebsite.com) offer job listings on their Web sites. Other job-search methods include using social networking sites such as LinkedIn, attending career fairs, and contacting companies directly about job openings.
