Work Environment

Judges work in offices and courtrooms. The work can be stressful and demanding, with long hours spent in the court or hearing room listening to cases. Some individuals may be difficult and confrontational, adding to the stress of the job. Some judges may have to work evenings and weekend hours, depending on the schedule of the courthouses. Judges also may get phone calls at night or over weekends regarding issuing emergency orders, such as search warrants and restraining orders. Some judges may also have to travel to counties and courthouses throughout their state.
