Any experience working with marketing campaigns, as well as the completion of at least one college internship, will be useful for those aspiring to careers in the field. Strong communication skills are needed as is knowledge of digital media and social media.

There are a number of personal characteristics that marketing managers need to succeed in their work. You will need good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to delegate work to other members of your staff. Because marketing campaigns are often run under strict deadlines, the ability to think on your feet and work well under pressure is critical.

Other traits considered important for marketing managers are intelligence, decisiveness, intuition, creativity, honesty, loyalty, a sense of responsibility, and planning abilities.
