Exploring This Job

One excellent way to learn more about a career in law is to participate in summer law exploration programs offered to high school students by colleges and nonprofit organizations. Here are three interesting programs to check out:

  • University of Pennsylvania Law School Pre-College Summer Academy: https://www.law.upenn.edu/academics/legaleducationprograms/pre-college-summer.php
  • National Student Leadership Conference: https://www.nslcleaders.org/youth-leadership-programs/law-advocacy
  • Georgetown University: https://summer.georgetown.edu/academies

The American Bar Association’s Legal Career Center Web site (https://www.americanbar.org/careercenter) is the go-to place for information on education and careers. If you’re already attending an ABA-accredited law school, you automatically become a student member of the association, which makes you eligible for a variety of benefits, including access to Student Lawyer. (Non-members can subscribe for a small fee.) Sample articles from the magazine can be read at https://www.americanbar.org/groups/law_students. The ABA also offers a blog and The Law Student Podcast.
