Mutual fund lawyers do not belong to unions, but many join professional associations that offer career assistance, networking opportunities, continuing education (CE) classes and webinars, specialty membership groups, publications, and other resources. The American Bar Association is the leading legal association in the United States. It has more than 400,000 members, and offers membership to attorneys, law students, and others who are interested in the field of law. It accredits law schools, publishes journals such as Business Lawyer, and offers educational and career information. The Association of Corporate Counsel is a membership organization for in-house counsel in the United States and more than 50 other countries. The Association of American Law Schools, a nonprofit association of about 180 law schools, offers information for prospective law students at https://www.aals.org/prospective-law-students. The Law School Admission Council and the National Association for Law Placement also provide many resources for law students and lawyers. The Investment Company Institute is a membership organization for regulated fund companies, including those who sell mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, and unit investment trusts. It offers CE opportunities and publishes the Investment Company Fact Book, an annual guide to the industry.
