Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

Space habitat designers must have several years of experience in general architecture, engineering, or industrial design positions (preferably in the aerospace industry).

Space habitat designers must be skilled at using computer-aided design software, as well as data analytics software, advanced artificial intelligence tools, and other forms of emerging technology. They also must have an understanding of rapid prototyping and mockup fabrication techniques, as well as virtual and augmented reality tools. Key soft skills and other important traits for designers include creativity; strong analytical, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills; the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team; good communication skills; flexibility; and top-notch organizational and time-management skills.
