Anesthesiologist Assistants

Outlook

Job opportunities for physician assistants are expected to grow much faster than the average through 2032, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. The expansion of the health care industry and the medical needs of the growing elderly population will continue to create need for anesthesiology assistants and other medical professionals. Most anesthesiologist assistants find work immediately upon graduation. Anesthesiology assistants may also find work outside of hospitals, such as in freestanding surgical centers and respiratory therapy clinics.

Anesthesiology is a hospital-based specialty, and anesthesiologist assistants and other health care professionals must work according to the guidelines of managed care, sometimes to the detriment of medical treatment. These professionals will continue to aim to practice medicine to the best of their abilities despite the challenges presented by managed care.
