The job title of art director can mean many different things, depending on the company at which the director is employed. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary for art directors in all industries was $92,780 in May 2018. The lowest paid 10 percent earned $52,160 and the top 10 percent earned $172,570 or more per year. Median annual earnings for art directors employed in motion picture and video industries were $117,360. Those employed in advertising, public relations, and related services earned about $95,130 per year. Again, it is important to note that these positions are not entry level; beginning art directors have probably already accumulated several years of experience in the field for which they were paid far less.
