Most edupreneurs are current teachers, school counselors, school administrators, or other education professionals—or have previous experience in one or more of these professions. They often remain in one of these professions as they build their business in order to maintain a steady income. The U.S. Department of Labor reports the following salary ranges for education, counseling, and library professionals in 2023.
- elementary school teachers: $46,960 to $104,440+
- middle school teachers: $47,490 to $104,410+
- secondary school teachers: $48,040 to $106,380+
- educational, guidance, and career counselors and advisors: $40,140 to $100,050+
- instructional coordinators: $46,540 to $109,500+
- school administrators (kindergarten through secondary): $70,050 to $163,010+
An edupreneur who remains employed in one of these positions will earn their regular salary, plus any income that they can generate from their educational products and services. This can range from a few hundred dollars, to tens of thousands of dollars, to millions of dollars for those who start a successful company or create a groundbreaking product or service.
School districts offer a variety of benefit packages, which can include any of the following: paid holidays, vacations, and sick days; personal days; medical, dental, and life insurance; profit-sharing plans; 401(k) plans; retirement and pension plans; and educational assistance programs. An edupreneur who is not also employed as a full-time education professional does not receive fringe benefits and must pay for their own health insurance and other benefits.
