High School
Take business management, entrepreneurism, accounting, and marketing classes in high school to help you better understand the business world and learn how to launch and manage your business. English and writing classes will come in handy because you’ll need to create a business plan, prepare marketing copy, write reports, and communicate with colleagues and current and potential clients. Speech classes will teach you how to be a confident public speaker and present information in a way that inspires people to purchase your product or service. Other important courses include computer science, psychology, social studies, and mathematics.
Postsecondary Education
Many edupreneurs have degrees in education, school counseling, or school administration, although some people become edupreneurs after working in fields such as computer science, engineering, science, or government. Some edupreneurs earn certificates or second degrees in entrepreneurism or business management to augment their skills.
Certification
Many colleges and universities offer certificates in entrepreneurism, business management, and related fields. The Edupreneur Academy offers a basic certificate in edupreneur leadership to those who complete the following modules: The Edupreneur Mindset, What’s a School, Designing a School, Operating a School, Taking Care of Business, and Developing Your Business Plan. A premium certificate is available to those who complete the following modules: Create Your Big Picture School Model, Create Your Operational Drill Down, Create Your Financial Drill Down, and Create Your Final School Implementation Plan. Visit https://edupreneuracademy.org/course for more information. The Association for Talent Development (https://www.td.org) offers certificates that cover a variety of topics that will be of interest to edupreneurs, including instructional design, training and facilitation, virtual training and facilitation, consulting skills, and learning technologies.
Other Education or Training
Colleges and universities, professional associations, online learning providers, and consulting firms offer classes about entrepreneurism, business management, marketing, social media, basic accounting, and other topics that will help aspiring and current edupreneurs build their skills. Some providers offer classes for edupreneurs. For example, Educator Dynamics, a company that provides executive leadership coaching and school-culture consulting services, offers an Educator to Edupreneur Master Class, which actually consists of 12 micro classes. Some of the micro classes include Becoming an Edupreneur, Finance and Opportunity, and Designing Your 90-Day Business Plan. Visit https://educatordynamics.com/edupreneur-master-class to learn more.
