Health Care Managers

Work Environment

To perform efficiently as an executive, health services administrators usually work out of a large office. They must maintain good communication with the staff and members of various departments.

Most administrators work five and a half days a week, averaging about 55 to 60 hours. However, hours can be irregular because hospitals and other health care facilities operate around the clock; emergencies may require the manager's supervision any time of the day or night.

In 2023, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that nearly 72 percent of medical and health services managers were women. This percentage is significantly higher than their representation (about 47 percent) in the U.S. workforce.
