PayScale.com reports the average salary for HR consultants was $81,038 in 2024. Earnings ranged from $57,000 to $123,000 or more.

Many consultants can demand between $400 and $1,000 per day, while top consultants at large firms such as the Boston Consulting Group can bill clients as much as $5,000 daily, plus expenses.

Salaried consultants typically receive a wide range of benefits, including health and life insurance, retirement plans, vacation and sick leave, profit sharing, and bonuses for outstanding work. PayScale.com reports that, in 2024, human resources consultants received bonuses that ranged from $1,000 to $17,000. They also received profit sharing benefits of $3,000 to $13,000. In addition to these benefits, all travel expenses are generally reimbursed by the employer. Self-employed consultants must provide their own benefits.
