Broadcast Engineers

Unions and Associations

Broadcast engineers often join the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians-Communications Workers of America or the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, two unions that advocate for workplace rights, safety and higher pay and benefits for unionized broadcast technicians and engineers. The major membership organizations for broadcast engineers are the Society of Broadcast Engineers and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, which offer resources such as continuing education, certification, and job listings. Other useful organizations include the Broadcast Education Association, National Association of Broadcasters, National Association of Farm Broadcasting, National Cable and Telecommunications Association, and the Radio Television Digital News Association and Foundation.
