Dermatologists

Outlook

The health care industry is thriving, and the U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment for dermatologists will grow faster than the average for all careers from 2023 to 2033. The field of dermatology is expected to expand for a number of reasons. New technologies, medicines, and treatments continue to be developed at a rapid pace. Additionally, there are more than 3,000 diseases of the skin (according to the American Board of Dermatology), which suggests a strong need for these professionals. Another factor in the growth of this industry is that the average age of the American population is rising, and older people require more skin-related health care. Demand for dermatologists has increased as people have become aware of the effects of radiation exposure from the sun and of air pollutants on skin. The public is also much more aware of the benefits of good general and dermatological health.
