Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts average employment growth for airline pilots, copilots, flight engineers, and commercial pilots through 2033. Opportunities should arise because of retirements, and will be especially good with regional airlines and nonscheduled aviation services, which have lower entry-level requirements. "There is typically less competition among applicants in these sectors than there is for major airlines," the DOL explains. Pilots for ambulance services that transfer patients to healthcare facilities will be in strong demand. Additionally, the DOL says that "continued demand for private chartered flights is expected to sustain job growth for commercial pilots."
