Advancement Prospects

Several advancement opportunities are available for engineers. Those with strong leadership skills and several years of experience can be promoted to the position of building automation systems manager, who oversees operational building automation systems or supervises engineers and technicians who design and install new building automation systems. A manager can advance to executive-level positions such as vice president, president, or CEO. Some engineers choose to open consulting firms and provide their building automation expertise to government agencies and construction firms and other companies. Those who earn a graduate degree can become college professors.
