Building Automation Systems Engineers

Work Environment

Building automation systems engineers work in offices, where buildings are being constructed, or in completed buildings in which automation systems will be installed, repaired, or upgraded. Work conditions can be demanding. As a result, engineers must be in good physical shape because they often climb stairs and/or ladders, work in tight spaces, and occasionally walk outdoors at construction sites on uneven terrain for long distances.

Engineers work a typical Monday through Friday, 9:00-to-5:00 workweek. Some are required to work at night and weekends to meet project deadlines. Many engineers enjoy their careers because this field is intellectually demanding and work environments and duties change regularly.
