Dental Laboratory Technicians

Earnings

Dental laboratory trainees earn slightly more than minimum wage. As technicians gain experience, however, their salaries increase. The U.S. Department of Labor reported that in May 2023, the median yearly income for dental laboratory technicians was $47,690. The lowest 10 percent earned $33,940 or less, while the highest 10 percent earned more than $77,460. Fifty percent of dental laboratory technicians earned between $38,250 and $60,880.

Self-employed technicians and those who work in smaller laboratories and perform a variety of work are likely to receive wages that exceed the average earnings.

The National Association of Dental Laboratories reports that salaries for dental laboratory technicians ranged from $46,452 (for an inexperienced technician employed in a small lab with one to nine employees) to $101,570 (for the most-experienced technicians employed in a large lab with more than 25 employees).

Benefits vary by laboratory but often include major medical insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, and disability income coverage.
