Unions and Associations

There are no unions for dentists, but membership in organizations such as the American Dental Association provides access to information about continuing education, certification, networking and employment opportunities, conferences, and more. Other noteworthy organizations include the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Student Dental Association (which offers membership for high school students who are interested in careers in dentistry and current dental students).

There are also many dental specialty organizations that provide useful resources. Examples include American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Periodontology, American Association of Orthodontists, and American Association of Endodontists.

Associations have also been founded to represent the professional interests of dentists from various ethnic groups. Examples include the Hispanic Dental Association, National Dental Association (which represents Black American dentists, as well as dentists in some foreign countries), and the Society of American Indian Dentists.
