Endoscopy Technicians

Most endoscopy technicians work full-time hours in endoscopy or gastroenterology units of clinics or hospitals, or in the offices of gastroenterologists who perform endoscopy onsite. Hospitals operate 24/7 and endoscopy technicians may be required to work in shifts that are in the evenings or over weekends. They may also be "on call," which means they must be prepared to come into work when a last-minute endoscopy procedure is scheduled. Endoscopy technicians must maintain sterile facilities and wear protective clothing and gear that is in accordance with the requirements of their employer and medical safety standards. The job can be stressful when juggling multiple patients and patients who are nervous or difficult, collecting biological specimens, and preparing for endoscopy procedures. Endoscopy technicians must maintain careful focus on the details, stay calm, and keep a professional demeanor in order to provide the best care for patients.
