Psychiatrists

Unions and Associations

Most psychiatrists are not members of unions, but some may be represented by the Doctors Council SEIU or another union. Professional associations that provide useful resources (publications, continuing education, networking opportunities, etc.) include the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. Many receive board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The Association of American Medical Colleges represents all accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools, major teaching hospitals and health systems, and academic and scientific societies. The Canadian Psychiatric Association represents the professional interests of psychiatrists who work in Canada. Other helpful agencies/organizations include the National Institute of Mental Health and Mental Health America.
