Transportation Engineers

Unions and Associations

Some engineers may be represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and other unions.

Transportation engineers must maintain their education throughout their careers. They take continuing education classes and participate in educational programs offered by professional associations. These organizations also offer certification, publications, research, conferences, and other resources. Transportation engineers may become members of professional associations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Highway Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers, Intelligent Transportation Society of America, National Society of Professional Engineers, and Women's Transportation Seminar International. In addition, the Transportation and Development Institute is a specialty institute of the ASCE. It offers various resources geared toward transportation and development professionals.
