Transportation Engineers

Work Environment

Transportation engineers work predominantly indoors in offices, spending much of their time on computers to review and create transportation plans and other documentation. They also travel to sites of transportation engineering projects to gather information and identify and solve design problems. They usually work full-time business hours, and often work more than 40 hours per week. When needed, they work longer hours to meet project deadlines and to tackle problems when they arise. Travel may be required at times for meetings and when working on projects in other states and countries.
