Computer and Office Machine Service Technicians

Outlook

Employment of computer, ATM, and office machine repairers is projected to decline by 2 percent from 2023 to 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. New software that enables repairers to diagnose problems remotely will result in repairers becoming more productive, and thus decrease the need for on-site service calls. Developments such as this will decrease the demand for computer and office machine servicers.

Opportunities are expected to be best for those with certification, formal training, knowledge of electronics, and experience repairing computers and office machinery. Those working on office equipment, such as digital copiers, should find a demand for their services to repair and maintain increasingly technically sophisticated office machines. Technicians will also be needed to replace those who retire from the field or leave their jobs for other positions.
