Deepfake Professionals

Outlook

The total number of deepfake videos online increased by 550 percent from 2019 to 2023, according to Security Hero's 2023 State of Deepfakes. As a result, there is a strong need for deepfake professionals to develop software and other methods to identify harmful deepfakes and create an authentication process (the use of blockchain technology is one idea) for authentic videos.

It’s important to remember that deepfakes are also used in positive ways, including to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and in education, in the film production and other creative arts, and in criminal forensics. This growing demand for deepfakes is fueling a need for skilled artificial intelligence and machine learning professionals. LinkedIn, the staffing firm Robert Half Technology, and other organizations consistently rank AI and ML careers amongst the most in-demand occupations in the United States. In addition, 46 percent of hiring managers who were surveyed by Robert Half Technology for its 2024 Salary Guide said that they would increase salary offers for candidates with expertise in AI and machine learning.

Deepfake professionals with advanced degrees and at least five years of experience at well-known employers will have the best job prospects during the next decade.
