Environmental Education Program Directors

Earnings

Earnings vary for educational program directors depending upon the employer, the size of the budget, and the region. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) reports that instructional coordinators (who develop curricula, select textbooks and other materials, train teachers, and make sure educational programs meet regulations and standards) had median annual incomes of $74,620 in May 2023, with salaries ranging from less than $46,540 for the lowest paid 10 percent to more than $109,500 for the top paid 10 percent. Those who worked for elementary and secondary schools averaged $78,910 per year, while those who worked for government agencies at the state level earned $80,450. Federally employed instructional coordinators earned higher incomes than those employed in other sectors: their annual income was $108,060.

Salaries for education administrators (who are responsible for setting schools' educational goals and establishing policies and procedures) vary depending on the school level and budget. The DOL reports that education administrators employed in elementary and secondary schools had annual salaries that ranged from $70,050 to $163,010 in May 2023. Administrators at postsecondary schools earned between $62,970 to $209,870.

Large organizations typically pay top salaries of $100,000 or more, while program directors who work for organizations with small budgets will receive much lower salaries.

Benefits for environmental education program directors depend on the employer; however, they usually include such items as health insurance, retirement or 401(k) plans, and paid vacation days.
