Obstetricians/Gynecologists

Outlook

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the employment of all physicians in almost all fields is expected to grow as fast as the average for all occupations through 2033. The number of obstetricians/gynecologists, specifically, is projected to increase 3 percent through 2033, resulting in an additional 700 jobs.

Demand for OB/GYNs is due, in part, to health care reform, which has made services accessible to more people. Some experts predict that there will be shortages of OB/GYNs. Opportunities should be especially good for OB/GYNs who are willing to work in rural or other underserved areas.
