Sheet Metal Workers

Exploring This Job

High school students can gauge their aptitude for and interest in some of the common activities of sheet metal workers by taking such courses as metal shop, blueprint reading, and mechanical drawing. A summer or part-time job as a helper with a contracting firm that does sheet metal work could provide an excellent opportunity to observe workers on the job. If such a job cannot be arranged, it may be possible to visit a construction site and perhaps to talk with a sheet metal worker who can give an insider's view of this job.
