The earnings of medical assistants vary widely, depending on experience, skill level, and location. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, median annual earnings of medical assistants were $42,000 in 2023. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $33,500, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $56,480 a year. Mean annual earnings of medical assistants who worked in offices of physicians were $40,670, and in hospitals they were $44,350.

Medical assistants usually receive six or seven paid holidays a year, as well as annual paid vacation days. They often receive health and life insurance, a retirement plan, sick leave, and uniform allowances.
