Nuclear Engineers

If you are interested in becoming an engineer, you can join student organizations such as the Technology Student Association (https://tsaweb.org), which engages students interested in fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Science clubs provide the opportunity to work with others, design engineering projects, and participate in career exploration. Young women who are between the ages of 13 and 18 can join the Society of Women Engineers as SWENexters. This free membership gives them access to monthly newsletters that provide career advice and scholarship tips; offers them the opportunity to compete in SWENext Club Challenges or FIRST Robotics; offers access to mentors; and provides other learning opportunities. The American Nuclear Society offers a wealth of career information, as well as virtual field trips, on its Web site, https://www.ans.org/nuclear/navigatingnuclear/classresources. It also offers membership categories for high school and college students.

Other ways to learn more about engineering careers include getting involved in summer exploration programs in engineering that are offered by colleges and universities and participating in competitions that are offered by SkillsUSA, Technology Student Association, and other organizations.
