Salaries for oncologists vary somewhat according to the oncologist's specialty. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, surgeons and physicians earned an average salary of of at least $239,200 in May 2023. Depending upon their specialty, salaries ranged from $205,860 to $449,320.

PayScale.com reports higher earnings for oncologists, with a median salary of $355,458 in January 2025. The lowest paid 10 percent earned less than $196,000, and the highest paid 10 percent earned more than $499,000.
