In 2025, the digital skills provider, Simplilearn, reported that the product owner profession was poised for growth during the mid-2020s, stating: "The following years will lead to an increase in remote product ownership. People will collaborate more with global teams and leverage their diverse experiences to produce better products. Product ownership will become even more customer-centric, boosting focus on the demands and tastes of the target market."

According to the Department of Labor, computer and information systems managers (a profession closely related to that of product owner) were expected to experience job growth of 17 percent between 2023 and 2033, a rate that is much faster than the average for all occupations. Product owners with a proven track record of success, expertise in a particular field, and certification will have the best job prospects during the next decade.
