Read Avionics Today (https://www.aviationtoday.com), which has a section on avionics trends, to learn more about the field. You should also watch avionics-related videos on YouTube and read books about avionics and aviation technology.

Participate in competitions that are offered by SkillsUSA (https://www.skillsusa.org) and other organizations to meet people with shared interests, build your skills, and compete for scholarships and cash prizes. Some SkillsUSA competitions that will be of interest to aspiring technicians include Aviation Maintenance Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology-Design, Mechatronics, Principles of Engineering-Technology, Robotics and Automation Technology, and Technical Drafting.

Talk with an avionics technician about his or her career. Ask your school counselor to help arrange an interview. Suggested interview questions include: What made you want to enter this career? What do you like most and least about your job? What advice would you give to young people about preparing for the field and being successful on the job?

Other ways to learn more about the field include participating in avionics internships, touring factories and test facilities where avionics technicians work, and talking with your school counselor about educational and career paths in avionics.
